Human Beings vs Human Doings (10 differences)

Human Beings vs Human Doings (10 differences)

May 02, 20252 min read

Are you more of a human being or a human doing?

In a world that celebrates busyness and hustle, it's easy to forget the power of simply being.

Sometimes, we are so busy managing our lives that we forget to live them.

We are human beings first and human doings second. Some days, it’s important to just be—for the pure enjoyment of life and to reconnect with yourself.

Many of us are raised to believe that our worth comes from what we produce, earn, and achieve.

We’re taught to push harder, drive forward, and keep grinding—because that’s what “success” looks like. Over time, this becomes part of our identity. We say things like: “I’m a hustler. I’m a doer. I’m a go-getter.”

But beneath all the doing, many of us are chasing a feeling of being enough.

You are born enough and worthy! You woke up this morning worthy and enough!

AND…if there’s anything we know for sure about life, it’s that it’s not black and white—it has multicolors, multishades, and multidimensions. It’s all about finding that balance between working hard and enjoying life.

Imagine yourself sitting in a rocking chair at the age of 95, looking back at how well you lived your life. The fact that you enjoyed life will be important to you (I’m sure!). Because if you didn’t, what’s the point? Work hard, pay taxes, and die all sad?

10 Ways to Highlight the Difference Between Human Beings and Human Doings

I hope this list adds more balance and joy to your life:

1. Human Being: Focuses on who you are.

Human Doing: Focuses on what you do.

2.Being is about identity, presence, and values.

Doing is about performance, tasks, and achievements.

3.Being is about stillness and awareness.

Doing is about movement and action.

4. A human being is worthy simply by existing.

A human doing seeks worth through accomplishments.

5. Being is a mindful, conscious state.

Doing is often on autopilot or reactive.

6.Being prioritizes connection with self, others, and nature.

Doing focuses on completing checklists.

7. Being listens to inner guidance.

Doing follows external expectations.

8.Being explores the deeper why of life.

Doing sticks to the how and what of tasks.

9.Being values the experience of life.

Doing values productivity and efficiency.

10.Being accepts the self as whole and complete.

Doing constantly tries to “fix” or improve the self.

Bonus:
Being embraces slow, soulful presence.

Doing is often dictated by the calendar and to-do lists.

Life is all about balance.
Find your balance, and enjoy life more.

Repetition rewires our brains. If you need to rewire your thinking, affirm: “I am enough, even when I take a break from producing or achieving.”
