TACKLE OVERTHINKING & RUMINATION
"Rumination is the act of continuously thinking about a past problem or event without reaching a resolution.”
Sometimes, we think about events in our past because we are looking for ways to solve problems and prevent them from happening again in the future, or we try to process and manage intense past emotions.
We may also ruminate as a self-reflection or self-criticism. We may think about our past actions, and mistakes, and get stuck in the loop of overthinking, saying:” I should have…., I would have…, I could have…”
Over time, it can become a habit. We slide into overthinking simply because it's a familiar way of dealing with stress or emotional discomfort.
If you find yourself going through overthinking and rumination, acknowledge it without judgment. Many of us go through this from time to time. The important part is focusing all efforts on the present and moving on with life.
Give your-past-self a big hug, and accept that version of you like a long-lost brother that you finally have reunited with. You are one! Together you are much wiser and stronger! Combine your powers!
